Most college men don’t know clothing outside of sweatpants, jeans, sports tees and hoodies. So here are just a few ways to help your bae spice up his wardrobe during this season!
1. Make it easy and start with one solid clothing article. For example, a black, gray, or white shirt. These colors aren’t too far out of his comfort zone, so he’ll be more open minded about trying them. H&M is a great place to find a fashionable, solid colored shirt that your boyfriend can pair with any jeans or khakis. The best part is that, with a shirt like this, you can slowly introduce him to layers once he’s comfortable enough.
2. Once your boyfriend is accustomed to the solid colors, you can start moving to patterns! Try to keep it simple with patterns like gingham, or stripes, with very basic colors so he doesn’t get overwhelmed. A simple gingham button up can be found at H&M, Forever 21, Macy’s, Pac Sun.
I know what you’re thinking, “How do I get my boyfriend to wear this?” Start by getting him to go shopping with you; don’t tell him you’re shopping for him. Then, go to the men’s section and start pulling items you think he would look best in. Before throwing him in the dressing room, use a compliment like “Babe, you would look so great in this, can you try it on for me please?” Once he sees it on, and sees how happy he’s making you, he’ll be on board.
3. Another easy article of clothing is a plaid button up. They come in a variety of colors but what guy doesn’t like blue? Even if there’s more then one shade of blue on the shirt it’ll be easy to slip him into one if he’s willing to wear the gingham. Macy’s, H&M, and American Eagle will have these types of shirts!
4. Cardigans are a little tricky but if you can get your boyfriend used to them, they’re a great item to have. His mother will thank you, and they’re super easy to layer if you show him how. Show him a few undershirts to throw underneath and he’ll be good to go. Rue 21 has great cardigans, as does Forever 21 if you’re up for the challenge.
5. The winter season is here so get your boyfriend out of his simple Northface and get him a nice pea coat. This is a big jump for most guys and will probably be a hard sell. Once he’s found the right one, you’ll see the transformation from boy to well-dressed man. I recommend splurging on this item by going online to Urban Outfitters, Macy’s, or American apparel; a winter coat will be worth it!
