3 reasons to try a natural make-up routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

There are so many different benefits that come with using all-natural products in your daily routine. Many people don’t realize that government regulations allow almost any ingredient to be used in the making of the products we use on our skin, nails, and hair. Even though products must meet the standards of the FDA, they still contain harmful chemicals. These toxins are easily absorbed in your skin and hard to get rid of. Whether you choose to buy more eco-friendly/natural products, or you choose to opt out of wearing make up on certain days (cue “No Make-Up Mondays”?), going natural is a great way to do something good for your body, help the environment, and save money.

1. You save money

Opting for a “less is more” make up routine is always classy, and will no doubt save you tons of money. Try using just a couple products here and there, but sticking with your natural self. So if you’re looking to bank a few extra dollars this month, try easing back on the products you use to make them last longer, or by simply sticking to just a few products that you really love.

2. Choose more eco-friendly products

Although natural products are often more expensive, the “less is more” rule can easily come into play here, as well. If we all opt out of wearing cheaper products that are harmful not only to our bodies, and support the natural brands, the more incentive we give to the beauty industry to get their act together to create healthier products.

3. No Harsh Chemicals

Opting for more natural products is much healthier for your skin. By avoiding harmful ingredients found in regular skincare products, you help decrease your chances of redness, irritation and breakouts, along with severe allergic reactions. You also put fewer toxic chemicals into the environment and water, therefore contributing to a safe and clean environment. Artificial fragrances in many products tend to cause headaches and sensitivity, which can be avoided if you opt for a more natural product.
