As I progress through my sophomore year of college, I have found it hard to find movies and shows that I can relate to. All American: Homecoming quickly became a relatable show for me. The show follows Simone Hicks (Geffi Maya Hightower), an aspiring tennis player, and Damon Sims (Peyton Alex Smith), a baseball phoneme, as they navigate the HBCU college lifestyle. The show is a spin-off from All American and has allowed for a universe to be created. The show explores the importance of community, the stigma of mental health in the black community, and the discovery of personal identity. As a black woman and a college student, it is revolutionary to see all of these factors composed to tell an authentic story that otherwise goes unacknowledged.

Season two of All American: Homecoming aired on the CW on Oct. 10. Many of the cast and crew members have emphasized the drama of the series but have also agreed that the story will remain true in the storytelling. Since Oct.10, the episodes have been released on a weekly schedule. The episode’s premiere on Monday nights on the CW network alongside their mother show. For those who prefer to stream their entertainment, the episodes are released on the CW app the next day, which is free. If you haven’t caught up on All-American and All-American: Homecoming’s previous seasons, you can do so on Netflix.
