Need help staying awake in class, or to finish your homework? Here are some techniques you can use to keep your eyes open and give you an energy boost!

First, mix up your diet a little. Try eating foods with proteins such as eggs, almonds, cashews, or, obviously, meat. Caffeine is the most obvious and popular solution, but do not drink a lot all at once. Drink coffee and other caffeine products gradually throughout the day. Drink a lot of water because dehydration causes fatigue. Finally, you may believe eating a lot will provide energy, but avoid heavy meals like spaghetti or French fries.

Second, try not to focus on how tired you are. Keep your mind stimulated by chewing gum, or even on ice. Listen to upbeat music and try to expose yourself to a lot of light, preferably natural light. Exercise also keeps you awake, although this is probably not a very popular method for tired people. Third, switch tasks to stimulate your mind. Monotonous tasks often make you not only bored, but even more tired. Try to make your task more interesting, or if you can, switch to a more exciting one and put your current monotonous task on hold.

If you follow one or more of these tips, you will feel better and accomplish more before you get that much-needed nap. However, you should still try to get plenty of rest and reduce stress as much as you can. Even college students need to take breaks.
