Meet Sara Paczkowski: Intern at Teen Vogue

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kean chapter.

There are very many magazines that us aspiring journalists would love to get just our toe in the door. Cosmopolitan, Seventeen Magazine, Elle, Vogue, Teen Vogue, and People are a few of these magazines. Well our very own HerCampus Kean writer Sara Paczkowski got an amazing internship at TeenVogue!

“Having the opportunity to work and learn with such a great group of skilled individuals is probably my favorite part of being an intern at Teen Vogue. I am also lucky enough to assist with events and see how everything falls into place behind the scenes!” said Paczkowski.

A marketing/promotions intern at Teen Vogue, Paczkowski travels to the magazine’s location in NYC a few days a week. Paczkowski said, “I work in the merchandising department, which means I have the opportunity to assist with day-to-day business activities, both in the office and out of the office. I help with cataloging and shipping items, customer support and preparing samples.”

Paczkowski is a senior at Kean majoring in English with a focus in writing and minoring in health. She is involved in many writing activities on campus including HC Kean and the school newspaper the “Tower.” These activities were just the start of things that helped her land her wonderful internship.

“Prior to this internship, I started to involve myself in different extracurricular activities and took advantage of different writing opportunities that were available inside and out of school. Once I felt more established, well rounded and experienced, I began looking for opportunities to display my work to friends, family, and classmates,” said Paczkowski. “Once I put myself out there, I began building relationships and became connected with the right people. You never know who will help you get door!”

There is no doubt that she deserved to get this internship. Paczkowski has gained a lot from her internship, saying she learned what it is like to work in the “real world.” She learned to be very resourceful and resolved problems on her own. It is something that hire ups will definitely appreciate in the workforce. It’s a great skill to have for the future.

When asked about the future, Paczkowski has so many possibilities available she just can’t chose. With her talented writing, people skills, and ambition there aren’t many roads that are blocked off to her. But her future is bright so there is no need to worry about that right now.

Paczkowski said, “ It is almost impossible for me to think that far ahead. However, I  eventually would love to write for a health publication or even write about my travels!”

Wherever Paczkowski finds herself in the future there is no doubt that she will do her best and excel.

Paczkowski was kind enough to offer those who are looking for internships a little advice. She said, “Landing an internship takes ambition and drive. Always strive to do things out of your comfort because that is what will ultimately help you grow, learn new skills, and become a confident candidate. Even if you get discouraged, keep challenging yourself– it will be worth it!”

"Just a girl trying new things!"Brigit Bauma was born in South/Central New Jersey on a farm of all things! Now she always knew that she wasn't born for the farm life, but she gained some great experiences from growing up on one. She wouldn't trade it for the world. She graduated in the top 10 of her high school and recieved the NJSTARS scholarship to go to her community college and earn her Associates degree. Brigit at first went for Nursing, but through a hard semester, found that even though she enjoyed the people and helping others, it was not for her. Always a lover of the arts, Brigit tried out for the musical and got cast as a minor role, which was huge! This helped her find that she wanted to pursue a degree in the arts. Brigit graduated with her Associates in English and Theater. She also earned a 3.75 gpa which qualified her for the NJSTARSII scholarship which she can use to go to a 4 year public school in New Jersey and get her Bachelors degree. Because Brigit wishes to pursue an editing job for a publishing company or magazine, she decided to go to Kean which is close to the city and she can hop on a train right by her school! Brigit has lots of cougar pride and would love to share her love for the arts, fashion, boys, and college experience with everyone!
