There’s just 12 more days until spring! I know a lot of you can’t wait until you can finally head to class without the layers of clothes that makes you oh so cozy. But there is one truth about winter, you either hate it or you love it. I am however a fan of snowy days, classes are cancelled and the view outside is painted all white. If you’re the opposite and frown at the thought of another snowstorm this winter you may just need to explore the opportunities of winter fun! Here are a couple of ideas that might brighten a winter day.

  1. Make A Snowman!

What better way is there to spend a winter day than building a snowman! Although you many have been finished with building snowmen after you turned ten, I know for a fact a little bit of childhood fun will lighten the stress of exams and homework. There’s much to it than just building a perfect snowman anyway. You can stir up the fun and start a snowball fight among friends. Maybe even learn how to finally build that igloo, so that you can have the coolest hang out spot during a winter day. Remember the idea is to have fun!

2. Movie Night

Rather stay in on a snowy day? No problem! Call up a bunch of friends and finally use that Netflix that you never have any time to watch. One thing that I know a lot of you do on days where you’re stuck inside is watch movies or a whole TV series. I am a big fan of the show “Orange Is The New Black” and I can actually admit that I finished the first season in a matter of three days. Just make sure you whip out the popcorn and hot cocoa before snuggling in front of the television.

3. Learn How To Make A New Dish Or Two!

Are you one of many college students who can’t cook a home made meal if their life depended on? I sure am! Snowy days are great opportunities to spend some quality time in the kitchen. If you’re a beginner, you can start with basic dish such as s’mores dip! All you need is one cup of chocolate chips, two cups of marshmallows, two tablespoons of milk, and graham crackers. First melt the chocolate chips in a small saucepan over low heat, then add the two tablespoons of milk and stir until creamy, pour the mixture into an oven safe dish and top the marshmallows over the chocolate, and then place the dish into a preheated oven for 3 minutes until the marshmallows on top are brown. Let the dip cool down for a bit and there goes a snack you can prepare during movie nights.

4. Finally Catch Up On Some Sleep!

Snow days are perfect because you can finally sleep in late! After working 30 hours a week and going to class at the same time, there is much beauty sleep to catch up on. Here are a few easy sleep tips for those who find it a challenge to fall asleep. A cup of warm milk before bedtime can be very soothing. A hot shower before bed can help signal your body that it is bedtime due to the rise in body temperature. Also listening to calming sounds, such as ocean waves or bird chirping, can help the mind settle to fall asleep.

5. Do Some Homework

I know that doing any work on the one day you have off may not be the most ideal thing to do to on a snow day, but it will sure help even out your workload! It may even finally give you an opportunity to join a couple organizations on campus. As a college student, make sure your priorities are straight and keep your assignments organized. Look for a couple internships, or finally settle down on picking a major. Although it is free day to relax, use it to your advantage.
