I am a big, BIG believer in vibrators. I think they’re amazing and anyone with a vagina should have one. I bought my first one last year and I have to say it was one of my best purchases ever. I know that buying a vibrator or just a sex toy in general can be really daunting and confusing at first, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for or what you need/like. I remember the first time I went to buy a dildo and I walked into a sex toy shop, completely lost and unsure and bought not the best dildo. So things can end not too great of you don’t do some research or have an idea of what your body needs.

The most important general note is that it’s important to wash and take care of your vibrators and toys, and that silicone toys tend to be some the safest to use!

Vibrators!

  • Traditional Bullet vibrators are GREAT. A lot of them are tiny and inconspicuous so you can travel with them. I would recommend going for one that is waterproof and has more than one speed. A lot of these can be pretty basic and have one solid speed and are super loud so make sure to read item descriptions and reviews carefully.

  • G-Spot Vibrators/Dual vibrators! For those of ya’ll who love having g-spot stimulation these are perfect. Now if you want both clitoral and g-spot stimulation your best bet is a dual vibrator or massager. The elusive g-spot can be hard to find but these help aid in the process. The ends can often differ between a flatter surface to a more rounded tip depending on what you prefer.

  • Clitoral Vibrators. For those of us who prefer clitoral stimulation these are amazing. There’s a range of types of stimulation ranging from suction to vibration to oral sex stimulators. You can find wand vibrators which are bigger and flatter, however most tend to be smaller and work on focusing the sensation on your clit and the surrounding area.

  • Anal Vibrators: I feel like a lot of people are nervous about anything having to do with their butt, but these are cool way to experiment or find a more intense stimulation. There’s a range of shapes, including plugs or bead-like vibrators.

Dildos!

  • Strap on! These dildos can be attached to a harness and therefore work in that for ya’ll who want to try that out with someone. The key here is definitely finding a good harness, or, for those who maybe want to steer clear of harnesses, there are strap ons that you can insert into yourself.

  • Anal Dildos/Dual Dildos. Like the anal vibrator, the shapes are the same. The dual one here tho focuses on your g-spot and your anus.

  • Silicone dildos! The cool thing here is that you can buy realistic looking dildos (as well as ones that vibrate) or you can buy a purple dildo, depending on your preference. There are different sizes you can get – if you are starting out it might be a better bet to go for 5 or 6 inch but there are 15 inch dildos for those who are interested.

  • Glass Dildos! I really like these, albeit partly for the aesthetic. These are super easy to clean and the sensation with these differs from that of regular silicone dildos.

For starters, it’s important to go into this shopping experience knowing if you want this for yourself or if you want to buy this for you and another person. Most solo toys can still be used in a couples context but it does help knowing when you’d ideally want to use it. Also for those who want to try and venture into some kinkier things and try BDSM, it also helps to do research and delve into the things you want to try slowly.

People in shops tend to be kind and willing to help newcomers. If not shopping online is a good way to start out. Remember that it is worth it to spend a little more here! And one last thing before I leave you all to your shopping and research, please clean your toys regularly!
