Whether you like her or not, chances are you have probably heard of Emma Chamberlain. Chamberlain started her career in 2017 by posting her first YouTube video titled “City Inspired Summer Lookbook 2017”, a foreshadowing to her status as a legendary fashion icon of today. As her career progressed and she drew more attention, she slowly delved into other interests, opening up a successful coffee business and partnering with acclaimed fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton. Today, she is known for having a chic and trendy wardrobe which she is keen to show off whether that is at the Met Gala or in a cheeky Instagram post. This article will further explore why Emma Chamberlain has become the face of Gen Z fashion.

One may question Chamberlain’s relevance to fashion since her career was never really dedicated towards it. She mostly focused on shooting daily vlogs or fun YouTube challenges rather than fashion videos however, her everlasting popularity and ability to adapt with the times has allowed her to retain a huge following, this encouraged big brands to work with her increasing her popularity. She had partnered with popular brands such as “Dote” in the past going on influencer trips which positioned her as an inspiration in fashion with her outfits plastered all over Pinterest, however what really solidified her as a fashion icon was being invited to the Met Gala in 2021. Perhaps this is when Chamberlain’s trendy style was acknowledged formally as she quickly gained celebrity-like-status, which previously was seen as unattainable for an influencer.

Furthermore, Chamberlain’s large following introduces a newer clientele for several brands which may have previously been exclusive to older and richer generations. Collaborating with brands such as Levi’s and Louis Vuitton has given these brands a modern sentiment and her modelling the clothes revitalises these brands giving inspiration to her young Gen Z followers. In short, the fashion world, (usually an exclusive place), could mutually benefit through pronouncing her a “fashion darling” due to her status and wealth.

Thus, Chamberlain has undoubtedly cemented herself as a cultural icon of this generation and continues to flaunt her style across her several social media platforms. As she continues to transgress the fashion world becoming a repeat fashion week and Met Gala attendee, we are sure that she will have some unique and exciting fashion projects coming soon.
