Less, Is More.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JWU chapter.

Less is more. Every year as time goes by and I grow older, I realize, less is actually more. Now, how did I come up with this partially basic topic? I did so by staring at my empty junior year apartment. Blank walls, minimal decorations…just me, my bed and four blank walls. Minimalists; now thats a whole different story. Being a minimalist means that you nearly live in a home that has the bare minimum. No bed, no decorations, and maybe two pairs of outfits. Aside from being a minimalist, here are some other ways why less is actually more.

1.) The less you speak, the more time you have.

Yes, it’s so important to be heard and to speak up when it’s needed. But sometimes, just shut up. I learned that when I keep my mouth shut and be a little less blunt, theres peace in the world. Even when you’re arguing…just don’t. I realized when I was arguing how much energy and time I waste.

2.) Less calories, more clothes.

Simple. Cut the soda, the candy bars and the chipotle. Instead, eat healthy and go shopping! I realized when I used to eat healthy, I enjoyed shopping and I enjoyed dressing up.

3.) Negative space creates elegance.

Looking at my walls and comparing them from my freshman years “Dirty South Hall” walls, I realized how much I have grown. Freshman year my walls had 500 photos of “friends” that probably weren’t your friends (or at least didn’t deserved to be on your freshman wall of fame), cute stick on quotes that encourages you to stay beautiful, or a cork board that notes nothing but the upcoming parties…the list goes on. Come junior year, my walls are blank, my comforters are grey and all I have on my bed are my pillows and a tiny stuffed minion. Aside from the minion, my room almost looks like a 30 year-old single business woman’s studio apartment. Is that a good thing at the age of twenty? For now, I’ll take that as a YES.

4.) Less talking, more doing.

Theres so many people in the world who are all talk, no action. So much that Ariana Grande has a song out about it. It’s not just about relationships either. Instead of talking about what could have been, or what you want in life, go get it. Be a go-getter. Be a goal-digger. Don’t be a dream-talker and just sit in your bed talking about what you wish do be, just do it. Be Nike!

In conclusion, theres a lot more than just four reasons why less is actually more. Whether it’s about a relationship, or how plain your walls are, in life, less is really more. So, next time whether your deciding on putting millions of photos on your college dorm room or talking about that one girl in your accounting class, stop and think about whether or not in that moment you’re doing too much to ultimately get less. Remember guys, less is more.

Hi everyone! I'm Reina Mori and I am a current sophomore at Johnson and Wales University. I currently study Baking and Pastry Arts/ Food Service Management. I am a proud Hermana of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. I am from New Jersey currently living in Rhode Island! I work at Vicotria's Secret and sadly, I love to spend all of my money there. I have the worlds cutest dog named Bailey. She's an Australian Cattle Dog who LOVES food just as much as I do. A few things I like to do for fun is cooking, playing field hockey, shopping, and being around my friends. A fun fact about me is that I am absolutely terrible when it comes to introducing myself.
