At the end of a long week, most college students like to relieve their stress through a Saturday night party. Here are some tips for being safe and stress free while enjoying parties.

1. Pack light

It is impossible to leave your stuff hanging at a party, whether you’re in lounges or specific rooms. Only bring important things that are compact and can be placed in your pocket such as your keys, Gold Card, and maybe some lipstick for those last-minute touch-ups!

2. Know when to step out for a breath of fresh air

When the night gets going, the rooms can become hot and steamy. Play it safe and step outside every half an hour or so for some fresh air.

3. Avoid wearing heels!

As much you want to look hot and sexy, heels are not the best choice of footwear at a party. With limited space and many people in one common area, you do not want to sprain your ankle or gett into a conflict with someone for stepping on their toes.

4. Be wary of your surroundings and personal space

Common rooms are a great place to host a party—that’s why they are often the place of choice. However, it’s very easy to intrude in someone’s personal space unintentionally. Be cautious while having fun; better safe than sorry.

5. Know when to call it a night

On Saturday nights, quiet hours begin at 2 a.m. When Resident Assistants make their rounds once quiet hours begin, be sure to comply and avoid getting written up.

6. Avoid disrespecting the host of the party

Hosts are the ones who are giving up their living space to host a party for a bunch of unruly college kids. Don’t forget that, after parties, they have to clean up the mess that you and your friends make, so avoid disrespecting them. Clean up after yourself. If you don’t like the music they are playing, either leave and find another party or just sit it out until a song you do like comes on.

7. Keep your eyes on your drink

As redundant as it may sound, there is no such thing as being too safe. Always keep your drink on your person at all times. If you need to go for a bathroom break, get rid of your drink and just get a new one when you get back. Don’t be too trusting when it comes to leaving your drinks hanging around.

8. If you go to a party with a friend, make sure you return home with your friend

Don’t leave your friend behind. Make sure you keep tabs on each other every few minutes.

9. Don’t be “trashy”

Don’t be that girl that uses your host’s bathroom as a place to hook up with someone. Avoid excessive public displays of affection because it does bother some people.

10. Don’t ruin it for other people

A lot of people want to dance away their problems. However, when things get heated, arguments can occur. Avoid taking out your personal issues on others. Fights are one of the big no-no’s of Juniata College and they can definitely cause a party to be shut down. Don’t ruin other people’s Saturday night—know when to back down and dance the stress away!
