Valerie Cateriano ‘17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Name: Valerie Cateriano

Hometown: Centreville, VA

Year: Sophomore

Age: 20

Major: Business Management

Minor: Nonprofit Studies

Relationship Status: Single

Campus Involvement: Student Ambassadors, Kijiji Staff Leader

Ideal Vacation Spot: Anywhere, either on a lake or in a historical town!

Favorite Movie: That’s hard; I am a big movie-lover! I would have to say Sixteen Candles because who doesn’t love a classic 80’s movie?

Woman Crush: Either Emma Stone or Anne Hathaway! They are both so perfect in the sense that they carry themselves in a classy way, but are also down-to-earth and funny. I love all the movies they are in!

Favorite Food: Mac & Cheese! I could eat it every day!

Netflix Addiction: As of right now, Gossip Girl! My suitemates just got me into it this semester and I am hooked! I like to think it adds a little spice to my life, especially during finals week when I’m a hermit studying.

Favorite Quote: I am not sure who wrote this or where I got it from, but it resonates with me so well: “So the point isn’t what we lose, but what we had in the first place. We aren’t meant to attain things like bullet points on a resume, we’re supposed to go through them and let them go through us.”

Favorite study spot: I have two different ones! If I need to write things down and need to use a table, I love the single desks back in the quiet section on the 1st floor of Carrier. They are so spacious! However, if I am doing something on my laptop, I love to be at the airport lounge in Warren. They have super comfy couches and the view is so pretty, especially when the sun is setting!

What’s your favorite thing about JMU? Honestly, the architecture of the campus. I love the fact that the buildings along the quad are made of the original bluestone that was mined here in Harrisonburg when the college was first built.

Fun Fact: My last name used to be Caterini until my ancestors migrated to Peru from Italy and changed it to Cateriano.
