Trend Alert: Blue Light Protective Glasses

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

In the generation of all things tech, people are constantly staring at screens. Whether that’s their cell phone, laptop, or TV — digital technology is everywhere. But with that comes blue light.

You might be wondering, what is blue light? Blue light is emitted from electronics and has a short wavelength that causes light to scatter more. This decreases contrast and strains the eyes, which has potential to develop into a medical issue with symptoms that can effect productivity. These symptoms may include blurry vision, problems focusing, dry or irritated eyes, headaches, neck pain, and back pain.

With the use of digital devices steadily increasing, how do we prevent blue light related issues from occuring? Protective Glasses! That’s right, companies are now producing glasses that work to shield your eyes from blue light.

Aside from protecting your eyes, these glasses also work as a fashion statement. They come in many different shapes, styles, and colors, so there’s something for almost everyone.

Some of the top retailers for these glasses are LadyBoss, Quay Australia, Pixel Eyewear, and Diff Eyewear.

This trend has even caught the attention of celebrities like Kylie Jenner.

I don’t know about you guys, but as someone who spends a good portion of my day on my phone and computer, I need to get a pair of these glasses for myself.
