Squishmallows have taken over the toy industry. Why are people so obsessed? Well, I think there are numerous reasons. The reason I believe is the most common would be the comfort a Squishmallow brings. Growing up we all had some type of comfort item: blankets, teddy bears, binkies, etc. A Squishmallow provides that same comfort we once got when we were younger. This makes sense because of the giant age group Squishmallows are loved by. All over social media, I’ve seen posts from pre-teens to 30-year-olds posting about their new finds. I also have family members around seven years old that beg me to bring more Squishmallows every time I go to visit them. They’ve become an item wanted by people of all ages which can make finding them difficult.

Another reason people adore them so much, especially in our age group, would be the chase of finding them. Since they are so popular it is hard to find certain ones and can take many trips to the store to see if they have any in stock. Traveling to multiple stores looking for Sqiushmallows is called “Squish hunting” and can become a fun hobby. It brings joy when finding a Squish that you’ve searched for so long!

It’s crazy to think how popular they became so quickly. The brand launched in 2017, exclusively at Walgreens, with eight characters in three different sizes. Now, four years later, they’ve taken over the industry. Now they have over 800 characters in various sizes! There’s a perfect Squish for everyone!

They also have helped tremendously during the pandemic. Many people have connected online to trade or share Squish hunting secrets. There have also been “Squishmallow Trades.” This is important for Squishmallow hunters because of the resale price many are increasing. It’s become an issue where people will go and buy every Squish they can find and then resale on places like Mercari or E-Bay and increase the price to an insane amount. I found this list of the rarest Squishmallows and could not believe the price of some.

Regardless of the prices, it doesn’t stop people from purchasing them. While some can be found for $4 others range to over $1,000. I tend to look towards the ones $20 and below to help keep my spending to a minimum.

Because I’ve become a Squish hunter I thought I’d share my current Squish wish list! All of them are relatively cheaper but are adorable.
