Spooky Season Checklist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Not only is it Fall…but it’s also October which means all things *spooky*!

While this month feels like its going by incredibly fast, there’s a lot of things that should be on everyone’s checklist.

Before this month ends, it’s dire that you appreciate the month for all it holds.

Here is a checklist of things you have to do this *spooky* season!

1. It’s pumpkin spice season! This is the most important and now starts well before the spooky season, helping us to get prepped. Indulge in your favorite spiced treat this month. Have a cheat day and devour some pumpkin spice yogurt covered pretzels or the classic PSL!

  1. Time to bring out the warm clothes! It took long enough but the temperature has finally dropped! Although, as a fan of the summer, I’m sad to retire the shorts. On the other hand, I’m excited about oversized sweaters and leggings and boots! Time to bring out the fan favorites, whether it’s a stylish scarf or a cozy hoodie, It’s nice to wear something comfy without sweating on your way to class.

  1. Time for Pumpkin patches. No need to buy a pumpkin, but truly, nothing is cuter than a pumpkin patch photo shoot.

4. Apple picking. Again, nothing is cuter than a fun fall photo shoot opportunity!

5. Haunted hayride/ house. I love a good spook. It’s fun to bring a friend who isn’t a horror fan, make it a competition who is the least scared. Or take it as a fun date idea!

6. DECORATIONS. A dorm, or apartment or house, anything will do! Paint some pumpkins, get some window stickers and put them on bathroom mirrors, get some fun wall decor. Making your own decorations is fun too. If you’re in a dorm try talking to your RA and try decorating your hall or lounge! (This is fun because it can be as little or as much as you want!)

7. Spooky movie nights are a total must, this can be such a fun date night or a great girls night in. Movies from “The Boy” all the way to the classics like “Twitches” and “Halloweentown”. A good cup of Spiced apple cider and some classic treats, like spooky Pillsbury cookies, can make a spooky season movie night one for the books.

8. Finally the big night, or weekend, where everyone gets dressed up. Whether it’s for a party or just for fun. The best part is coming up with the ideas. What’s even better is making group costumes, whether it’s dressing up as Mario Kart or dressing up as the four seasons (personally obsessed with this costume idea, but whatever)

Just a few things that are important for celebrating this spooky month, remember to enjoy the rest of October and,

TREAT YOURSELF!

I'm an English and psychology major with a minor in Pre-law. Class of 2022 at James Madison University. I love dogs, and avocados and ice coffees. Catch me dancing alone in my room or reorganizing things for the fun of it!
