People ask me what it is like having your own side gig, and what I tell them is that it’s a ton of fun. Although it is rewarding to make money and work on your own time, it requires a lot of hard work.

For those of you do not know, I started my own tie-dye business this summer. It started as just a fun activity to pass the time, then developed into dying shirts for friends and family. Now I dye tons of shirts and sell them to people from all over. Sure, I’m not making bank from this little business as of right now, but the extra funds coming in have certainly helped. Someday I hope to expand this business and make it more of a full-time gig.

The best part of this all is being able to take my talents and hobbies, and pour them into a creative outlet that is able to make me a little moolah. I love every moment that I spend on dying different clothing. Watching the transformation from a plain or old shirt, into an art piece of different colors and patterns.

Sometimes the shirts I make are not always successful, there are certainly failures amongst them. However, failures of any sort are building blocks to success. If you take what you learned from the failed trials, you will know what not to do next time. This is how I choose to look at all aspects of my life, not just my small business, and I believe that it has helped me grow wiser in the process.

If you have something that you are passionate about, expand your dream even further. I encourage you to take that first step, and continue taking steps until you reach your goal. Every time I dye a new shirt or make another sale, I think about how this is pushing me forward to achieve my dreams.
