Rich Bitch Book Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Whether you’re a graduating senior about to take on the real world or you’re just getting ready to embrace summer vacation, we all have some unavoidable issues coming our way. Every college student (heck, everyone in general) deals with it: money.

If you want an excuse to take a break during finals cramming, or you’re just stocking up on good summer reads, grab a copy of Nicole Lapin’s Rich Bitch. Lapin’s media presence, clothing obsession, and hilarious stories make it so every girl can find something that resonates with them.

This 12-step guide to staying financially fit is put in plain English. She breaks down the terrifying idea of dealing with money into easy-to-follow and fun to read stories about her own life that help you learn from her mistakes. Even better, she breaks down standard financial lingo and monetary myths. She essentially tells you how to live a life close to your dreams without ending up in a fiscal nightmare.

My personal favorite part of this book is the lingo she uses. It’s not artificial, you can tell she actually talks like that. See her frequent “Bitch Tips” if you want to know what I mean.

And if you aren’t sold quite yet, here’s my personal favorite quote:

“It wasn’t so much about the fact that I had been dumped by a boy, but that I had been exposed as not knowing or understanding such a crucial topic. It was like Elle Woods possessed me. I began by reading the Journal every day.”

Sophomore SMAD major at JMU with a passion for people, donuts, music, coffee and pretending to do homework outside. If you watch Parks and Recreation we'll get along just fine.
