As I sat down with Mike, his passion for life overwhelmed the room. His motivation and driven personality for his studies and fraternity life shined throughout our conversation. However, behind this serious attitude, Mike also conveys a humorous side. He has a charisma that can be seen from all around and a contagious smile that pulls you in.
“I am a fun-loving guy that loves to laugh every day. One of my hobbies is reading, even though I haven’t had time to because of studying. This summer, however, I plan to pick it back up.”

What organizations are you involved in?
I am involved in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, College of Business 300, program Quality Council, and AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals).
How do your organizations interest you?
I pledged Kappa Alpha Psi this semester and it was a great experience.
Kappa Alpha Psi stands for achievement in every field of human endeavors, which is one of our goals that aligns closely to my heart. It has helped me shape my constant motivation, thus making me a better person. The brotherhood I developed with my line brothers is very special to me— we have learned life lessons together.
Kappa created a national iKare program that raises money for natural disaster relief. The national program we support is St. Jude’s Hospital. We recently started this collaboration and have raised substantial funds to support this charity.
How did you get involved with Kappa?
I was interested because I knew members involved within the organization and I had a desire to become a better man. The guys involved exemplify a persona about themselves, showing that they take care of business around campus with various programs and events. I liked that.
What is your favorite thing about JMU?
JMU is a special experience. I love how JMU has developed this community with programs like F.R.O.G which helps students immediately feel school spirit. It is a unique atmosphere with wonderful opportunities—a hidden gem among Virginia schools.
