If you haven’t heard about it yet, I’m sure you will.  A group of people that travel the country attending and making videos of college parties, known as “I’m Shmacked”, recently announced that they would be at JMU for a few days this weekend.  On January 14 at 2:02pm, @ImShmacked tweeted, “#JMU this weekend.”  This caused a lot of excitement on campus, as colleges all over the country anticipate what I’m Shmacked will bring.

Both students of James Madison University as well as the I’m Shmacked crew seemed to be very excited about the upcoming weekend.  This excitement soon turned into a “twitter battle” when I’m Shmacked began tweeting hateful things about JMU and its students.  The general consensus seems to be that JMU fraternities were warned about allowing I’m Shmacked into their parties.  Threats were made that if the I’m Shmacked crew was let in to a fraternity party, that fraternity would lose their charter on campus.  When the I’m Shmacked crew was denied access to parties at JMU, they began a tweeting craze that resulted in a lot of drama.

I’m Shmacked announced that they would be leaving JMU, and it didn’t take long before the students of JMU started tweeting back at them.  At 3:22am, I’m Shmacked tweeted that they were currently trending in the state of Virginia.  When the derogatory tweets continued today, popular Twitter accounts at JMU got in on the action.  JMU Campus Cadets (a parody account) as well as JMU Party Problems refused to take hate from I’m Shmacked, and began sarcastically tweeting at them about being “salty” and hating on our school.  At 2:05pm today, @ImShmacked tweeted, “JMU Administration just emailed us asking us to stop ruining their 2015 enrollment.”

The Twitter brawl lasted for a few hours, but seems to be dying out as I’m Shmacked arrives at other schools across the east coast.  Shane Van Hoy, a freshman at JMU, commented, “I think it’s so funny to read all the tweets about the I’m Shmacked scandal.”  It definitely stirred up some feelings among the JMU student body as well as the I’m Shmacked crew, but caused more laughs than anything.

I’m Shmacked may not have had a typical night at James Madison University, but it will be a night to remember.  Students are already creating alternative t-shirts and videos that let I’m Shmacked know we aren’t offended.  For more tweets from @ImShmacked, check out their profile.
