You’ve finally made it! It’s the last week of classes and then you’re off for Thanksgiving break! You’ve been working hard all semester, and that definitely entitles you to some pampering. But you don’t need to go to the spa to get the best facials and body masks. Everything you need calls for just one trip to your local supermarket. Here is the breakdown of my top three DIY masks and scrubs!

Sugar Body Scrub
·      1 Cup Brown Sugar
·      ½ Cup Mashed Avocado
·      1 Cup Olive Oil

For this scrub, the avocado is an optional ingredient, but it is super moisturizing so I definitely recommend it! When making this mask, you can adjust the measurements by adding more sugar to make it coarser, or more olive oil to make it more fluid. Just mix all the ingredients together, apply to your skin, and rinse off with warm water in the bath or shower. For even more amazing results, pat skin dry and follow up with your favorite moisturizer.

Strawberry Face Mask (For Dry-Normal Skin Types)
·      5 Strawberries
·      ½ Tablespoon of Non-Flavored Yogurt
·      2 Teaspoons of Honey

This is the ideal moisturizing mask and a favorite for the wintertime. Again you can use your own judgment with the ingredients to make it more suitable to your skin type and preferences. Yogurt is great in a facial mask because all dairy products enriched with Vitamin D are great for dealing with rosacea and hyperpigmentation. Honey is also a good ingredient because its natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties make it great for helping the skin retain moisture and leave it looking soft and radiant. Store this mask mixture in the fridge for up to 20 minutes before use and then you’re good to go! (Warning: this mask is so delicious – you’ll be tempted to eat it!)

Carrot Face Mask (For Normal-Oily Skin Types)
·      1 Large Carrot
·      ½ Tablespoon Honey
·      ½ Tablespoon Olive Oil
·      A Few Drops of Lemon Juice

This mask is a little tricky, and slightly more time-consuming to make than the others, but it is definitely worth it! Carrots are great for the skin because they are naturally antiseptic and have vitamins like carotene and iron so they tone and clarify the skin. If you have acne prone and/or oily skin, this mask is great to use! However, if you have dry skin, add extra olive oil and even some avocado to make this mask suitable for you as well. After you steam and mash up the carrots, you add all the ingredients together, mix until you obtain a smooth consistency, and let it cool in the fridge before application.

As with any new skincare regimen, test these masks on your chin or inner wrist to make sure that they don’t irritate your skin. Overall, they are super great and easy to make. Have a fabulous break filled with relaxation and fun!
