Don’t.

Over the years I’ve learned to accumulate a list of things I want throughout the year. I then pass the list over to my sister and my parents, and then, they know what I want for Christmas.

Why leave it up to them to guess what you want? No one knows you better than you. You’ll be happy because you’ll get what you truly want. Which, in turn, will make them happier because they made you truly happy.

It also takes the work out of it for them. Instead of making them guess, tell them what you want.

As first, I was a little worried that it would come across as pushy or demanding, but with a little explaining, all is good. I sent the list along with an explanation like this:

Here’s a list of things I need or would like for Christmas. Feel free to buy something off this list, but if you get something from here, I’m guaranteed to love it! They range in price from $10- $100. I’d love to get some ideas for what to get you! Thank you and love you!

My advice: don’t beat around the bush.
