Beauty Products That Are Actually Worth the Splurge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

It’s no secret that many of the beauty products we use are owned by the same major companies.  Most of the time, drugstore products are just as good as luxury products, although occasionally there are products that defy this trend.  These luxury beauty products I’m about to feature are truly worth the splurge, so if you find yourself with a little extra tax return money, I encourage you to try out some of these products that I fell in love with!  In no particular order…

1. DreamDuo Overnight Transforming Treatment by GlamGlow, $59

This might be my favorite beauty product ever.  In the colder months of the year my skin gets dry, and none of the moisturizers I have did the trick for me when it comes to properly hydrating my face, until I discovered this one.  This cream by GlamGlow is a two-step moisturizer: you apply the light-colored cream first, and then the darker-colored cream afterwards. It worked practically immediately in hydrating my skin and making it feel soft and radiant.

2. Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue Ultra Wear Lip Colour, $38

Chanel doesn’t disappoint. This liquid lipstick doesn’t crack and stays on forever without crumbling!  The formula is super smooth and buildable for a liquid lipstick, and the clear lip gloss makes my lips look so full!  I’ve tested out many different liquid lipsticks and this one is my favorite by far—you honestly get what you pay for. My favorite shade (which, I’m pretty sure is one of their best sellers) is 48- Soft Rose.  It’s the perfect shade of pink!

3. Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer by Tarte, $30

I feel like a lot of bronzers out there can look orange, but not this one!  This Tarte bronzer isn’t as expensive as other items on the list, but I’ve found that it runs out fast (maybe I’m just applying too much)!  The “Park Ave Princess” shade is perfect for lighter skin like my own. It also doesn’t bunch up in dry spots which I really like. Plus, you can use it year-round, giving you a little color in the winter and that sun kissed glow in the summer!

4. Cle de Peau Concealer SPF 25, $70

If you’re not really into the natural look, this product will be your best friend.  This concealer is the best one I’ve ever tried, as it completely covers up my dark circles and lasts all day!  A little of this concealer goes a long way and the stick lasts me months. They have a lot of shades to choose from as well!

5. Daddy-O Shampoo by Lush, $33.95

Blondes!  This shampoo will prevent your hair from turning brassy, especially if you dye it lighter often.  It makes my hair smooth, shiny, and doesn’t strip it of natural oils. I’ve been using this product forever now and I find myself constantly running back for more.  Definitely one of the best purple shampoos out there.
