As Halloween creeps closer, finding a costume that looks good and doesn’t break the bank can be quite the struggle. But if you look inside your closet, you’ll be surprised by all the costumes that can be created out of clothes you already own. Here’s a list of eight DIY costumes you can find in your closet.

1. Witch

If you’re looking to channel Hermione Granger, this costume is super fun, quick and easy.

What you need: Black skirt, black tank top or longsleeve (depending on the weather), tights (optional), black boots, witch’s hat like this one

2. Cat

This is the purrfect last minute costume for anyone looking to sink their claws into some fun. We always knew you were a cat person anyways.

What you need: Black top, black leggings or jeans, eyeliner or face paint for whiskers, cat ears headband (available here and here)

3. Cowgirl

Only have fifteen minutes to giddy-up and get to that awesome party? This is most definitely the costume for you.

What you need: Jeans, flannel shirt, cowgirl boots, braids (optional), bandana (for around your neck), cowgirl hat (here)

4. Lumberjack

Cinnamon rolls not gender roles, my friends. And anyone who says any different will surely get the axe.

What you need: Flannel shirt, jeans or overalls, hiking boots, beanie

5. Nerd

You’ll be ready to go out faster than you can say e=MC^2.

What you need: Suspenders, button-down shirt, black skirt, knee high socks, glasses

6. Rosie the Riveter

What better way to show your support for the feminist cause than by dressing up like one of its most iconic figures?

What you need: Jeans, denim button-down shirt, red bandana, red lipstick

7. A Typical Freshman

If you’re feeling a little nostalgic for your freshman days, a night in this costume will make you glad you’ve left them behind.

What you need: Jeans, fight song t-shirt, lanyard, mappy

8. Woodstock Attendee

Flower headbands and bellbottom jeans? Sounds like a totally rad costume to me.

What you need: Jeans, peasant blouse (a tie-dye shirt works, too), boots, flower headband like this one, braided hair
