5 Websites You Never Knew You Needed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

We can all relate to the typical stresses of college. Between keeping organized, surviving on the college kid budget, staying in the know, and nailing that summer internship, all while striving for the dean’s list…life can get a little crazy! Luckily, here are a few, of the many, [FREE] websites that will help you stay on top of your game

1. Venmo

This website—also available for app download—is a safe and free way to automatically transfer money. Imagine–you and your friends are out, and suddenly, the craving for Chipotle or Starbucks hits…but you completely forgot to bring money with you. What do you do? Have your friend pay for you and “Venmo” them the money to pay them back. It’s as simple as that! No more stressing over who will pay the bill, this website/ app will take care of it in an instant. Sounds like money to my ears.

2. Tradesy

With online shopping being as simple as a click of a button, we are left with draining bank accounts month after month. Thankfully, Tradesy has solved the problem! Not only can you shop the latest fashions and top brands for a discount on this website, you can also sell the clothes you no longer wear and make a little extra cash. So go ahead, get a head start on your spring cleaning and dig through your closet for a little extra cash in your pocket.

3. The Skimm

The Skimm will no longer let you leave the house without giving a quick glimpse at the daily news. This website lets you sign up for a daily email (no spam I promise) that tells you what is going on in the world in a way that is quick and easy to read…it’s also really amusing. Paired perfectly with a hot cup of coffee, you’ll feel like you’re in your own personal café while reading this. It’s one of my personal favorites, and a college must-have to stay in the know.

4. LinkedIn

You’ve heard it a million times, “It’s all about who you know.” Well, now the connections are endless, and they are right at your fingertips! LinkedIn is a globally-growing professional network that will help you step into the professional world. I cannot tell you how much this website helps to not only organize your experience and skills, but give you endless, valuable connections.

5. Strikingly

This website gives you the ability to easily create your own website with your own domain to show future employers your skills. But something that is even better is that Strikingly can connect to your LinkedIn profile to create a beautiful online resume. One look and you’ll be hooked–this website will help you make connections and land you that internship.
