5 Super Relatable Shows to Binge Watch After Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

Whether or not you’re graduating, post-spring-semester-finals mark a monumental time in our college careers: the end of another school year! To treat yourself, here’s a list of five super-relatable TV shows to binge-watch once finals are over.

1. Girls

Hannah Horvath may possibly be the most relatable character in any TV show I’ve ever watched. This show depicts the lives of four twenty-somethings living in New York City trying to figure their lives out. The writing is genius and hilarious and it’s so refreshing to watch a TV show where I can relate to literally every single character. Female friendships, Lena Dunham, and an amazing soundtrack–what’s not to love? The show isn’t on Netflix but you can easily watch the entire show using a free trial from HBO Go!

2. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Hands-down the funniest musical romantic comedy ever. Even though every musical number will have you laughing at its absurdity, the show also touches on serious topics such as feminism, bisexuality, and abortion. The plot starts when main character Rebecca leaves New York on a whim to move to California in hopes that she’ll be happier (her ex-boyfriend also just so happens to live there). Both two seasons are on Netflix and you can binge-watch them both in no time. Be prepared though – you may be tempted to break out into song at random after watching.

3. Gilmore Girls

If you didn’t already binge-watch this show with your mom in high school, now is the time. Gilmore Girls follows the mother-daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore from the time Rory is a sophomore in high school to the time she graduates college. Bonus: not only is the whole series on Netflix, the reboot of the show Gilmore Girls: a Year in the Life is on Netflix too!

4. New Girl

New Girl is the ultimate TV show depiction of what it’s like to “go random” when it comes to roommates. Well…usually not all of us are lucky enough to land three attractive guys as random roommates, but Jessica Day is the exception. As if Zooey Deschanel’s adorableness isn’t enough to convince you to watch this show, I always find comfort in watching fictional adults struggle to remind myself that I’m not the only one who doesn’t entirely have my life together.

5. Game of Thrones

So it’s not really relatable per say but if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon now, you really need to catch up. I can’t really say anything about Game of Thrones you haven’t heard already, besides the fact that there are so many badass women in this show. Between the Mother of Dragons and young assassin Arya Stark, you won’t be disappointed by the number of women who completely challenge the patriarchal system in the fictional world of Westeros.
