5 DIY Gift Ideas Your Friends and Family Will Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

The holidays are right around the corner. Many of us are realizing that we have a long list of family and friends to shop for but limited funds to do so. With these DIY gift ideas, you can give gifts to all of your favorite people while hardly making a dent in your wallet.

1. Quote Canvas

Have a favorite quote you know your mom or best friend would love, too? Do you and your gals have a mantra you try to live by? Why not make it into a gift? With a blank canvas and some paint, you can make them a gift that’s pretty and has a lot of thought and meaning behind it. They’ll love the sentiment and it will look great on their wall!

2.  Memory Movie

This is a great gift for just about anyone you care about. They say a picture lasts a lifetime and with this gift, your pictures can last forever, too. If you have a lot of pictures of you and friends and family from over the years, you can make a really great and meaningful slideshow. It’s super easy with programs like iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, and all you need is a DVD. Whoever the lucky recipient of this gift is will have it forever!

3.  Hand Made Mug

Do you have someone in your life who loves coffee? Make them their very own mug! With a plain white mug and a porcelain marker, you can create a custom made mug for your loved one. Write their name, a witty saying or simply draw some cool designs. They’ll have a new mug for their favorite beverage, plus they’ll think of you every time they reach for it!

4. Mason Jars

The great thing about mason jars is that you can use them to store whatever you want! They’re awesome for holding pens, makeup brushes, even flowers. With some ribbon, stencils and paint, you can make super cute mason jars that your friends and family will love. Not only will they spice up someone’s desk or dresser, they’ll save space and offer organization.

5.  Apron

Does your dad or favorite uncle love to grill? Make him his own grilling apron! With a solid colored apron and some fabric paint or markers, you can create the perfect grilling accessory for your favorite guy. Even mom would love this gift!
