3 Reasons Why These Clowns Are Ruining Our Lives

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

In case you’ve been living under a rock the past few weeks, America is being plagued with clowns. That’s right…our country is currently living in fear of people dressing up as clowns and standing in neighborhoods. Social media has gone absolutely nuts over these freaky people. I’d like to take a step back and look at the problems these weirdos are causing.

1. They’re Freaking Out Parents and Closing Down Schools

So it all supposedly started in South Carolina when a little boy told his mom that two clowns tried to lure him into the woods, which sounds like something straight out of a horror movie. Dozens of reports like this started to spring up all over the country. School districts were literally put on lockdown when there were reported clown sightings.

2. They’re Causing Riots on College Campuses

Not only have children and parents been freaking out, college kids have too, but in a different way. There have been “sightings” on campuses like Penn State, and even JMU, but with no real backing. Students flocked together outside of dorms and chanted things like “kill the clown!”

3. Clowns are No Longer Funny

I’ve hated clowns for as long as I can remember, all thanks to Stephen King’s “IT.” But with Halloween just around the corner, you can bet there’s going to be a lot less clown costume sales. Everyone now fears the people behind the face paint and big red nose.
