The semester is ending, the holidays are approaching, and the time for Christmas movie-watching is officially upon us. Truly, truly the best time of the year. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have commenced with your marathon of holiday-themed wonderfulness the moment that it became socially acceptable to do so. And, moreover, you’ll have strategically planned your days leading up to Christmas so that you have time to watch all of the Christmas movies – and I do mean all of them. Or you could be a normal person and pull out a couple every now and then to watch with family and friends. Or just catch whatever’s currently playing on ABC. These are options as well.

But, regardless of whether you’re the ultimate Christmas-movie enthusiast or someone with a more appropriate level of holiday excitement, everyone has that one favorite movie that never fails to make the holiday season complete. And what that movie is can be quite revealing. So put on your Santa hat and get ready to find out what your favorite Christmas film says about you with this fun little guide to the holiday’s most beloved classics.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

You are truly a kid at heart. You love all of the things that are good and wholesome in this world – aka lighthearted comedy, animated films and the whole Peanuts gang – and you’re not too ashamed to admit that, sometimes, childhood really did have it all.

It’s a Wonderful Life

A classic tale for a classic kind of girl. You love the old-time feel of this 1946 black-and-white drama just as much as you love wine-and-cheese nights, vintage jewelry, and nineteenth century British literature. You’re more likely to keep this tradition – and traditions in general – alive than other Christmas movie-watchers, passing your love for this evocative tale along to anyone who happens to be around you during the holiday season.

Home Alone

You’re witty and devious, but you also wear your heart on your sleeve a little bit – just like our good friend and hero, Kevin McCallister. Affection is never remiss in your mind, and you appreciate the film’s emphasis on the importance of family and understanding just as much as you admire the genius of what can objectively be called the best trick ever played.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Secretly in love with Christmas, but a little too nonchalant about it all to get too horribly excited? Yep, that’s you. Just like Tim Burton’s animated pseudo-thriller, you’re good at disguising the joy and wonder that you associate with the holiday season (I mean, you have to admit – packaging it as a Halloween story is pretty clever), but it’s still pretty obviously there nonetheless.

Elf

You’re the kind of girl who has a solid appreciation for humor. You enjoy having a good time and, no matter what happens, you’re always able to find some tidbit of life’s ridiculousness to laugh about. You’re also dedicated to making sure that the magic of Christmas lives on – you’re just wise enough to recognize that doing it in yellow tights and a little greet hat probably isn’t the greatest idea.

Miracle on 34th Street

You are sweet and sentimental and just a bit of an idealist. Though you may think that you’ve got both feet planted firmly in reality, your love of magic and fantasy is as quietly, discreetly real as Kris Kringle becomes to the initially jaded, but oh-so-adorable Susan Walker.

I’ll Be Home for Christmas

This off-beat holiday favorite proves that you like it straight with a twist. You appreciate the fact that this movie manages to capture a sufficient amount of Christmas spirit without becoming too overwhelming or cloying, and see its added dashes of rom-com and just plain ol’ comedy as the equivalent of other wonderful life-things – like unexpected endings or people who never really take themselves too seriously.

Love Actually

You’re a not-so-closeted romantic. More than anything, you love a good happy ending. But you also don’t really mind the riding the emotional roller-coaster of drama that often paves the way to one. Most importantly, you have a healthy obsession with Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant or Colin Firth. Or all three – something that is more than perfectly acceptable, for obvious reasons.

And there you have it – your personality à la Christmas movie. Now all that’s left is for you to dust off that favorite holiday film, curl up on the couch with a blanket, and let the feeling of Yuletide come alive. Happy movie-watching, all!
