Kiss Proof Valentines Day Liquid Lipsticks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JHU chapter.

Happy almost Valentine’s Day! Since we all know men are too often useless on the most romantic day of the year, I thought I could discuss something much more exciting: lipsticks! Liquid lipsticks have been a huge makeup trend and all brands have come out with their own take on them, so sometimes it’s hard to tell which are worth it!. Whether you’re smooching your significant other this V-day or just going IN on a wonderfully greasy slice of Domino’s while condemning the patriarchy, liquid lipsticks are for you! Here are a few I’ve come to love and are more loyal than most of your exes.

1. Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks: Of course I couldn’t leave out the queen of liquid lips. To be honest I’ve spent a questionable amount on Kylie’s products over the past few years. But I can honestly say they are some of the best lipsticks on the market. I love her color selection and my recent favorites have been Kristen, Maliboo and Love Bite. They are SUPER long lasting but if you don’t like your lips to be too dry, apply some balm underneath before you apply. Her lip kits are $29 (for a liner + a liquid lipstick) and single liquid lipsticks are $17, and I can say I think they’re worth it for the quality!

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks: The Anastasia brand liquid lipsticks are definitely another popular ‘higher end’ option. I just recently purchased my first one and can say they dry similar to the Kylie kits (very matte & long lasting) but the formula is a little bit more mousse-y when you apply it. I love their color selection as well, and currently am loving my nude color in Pure Hollywood. At $20 I still think these are worth it and are a good option for people who have never tried liquid lipstick.

3. Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick: This stuff is literal magic. I wore the gorgeous red shade Bawse for over 6 hours, and ate a meal, and it did not budget at all! They’re so pigmented and do NOT dry my lips out. They’re more of a splurge at $24, but they are hands down my favorite formula.

4. Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick: These are such a great affordable option! They have a great range of finishes but I currently only have the satin ones. These are a little less drying than their Ultra Mattes but are slightly less long lasting. However, I wore the color November (a beautiful pink perfect for a *romantic* vibe) to PJs and it lasted through a game of pong and some dirty shirley’s. They do dry down after application but may transfer a little bit onto any cups/straws. Colourpop is honestly one of my favorite lipstick brands as they have SO many options and these are only $8!

5. Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams: These are another great drugstore option and only cost $6. I have a few colors but my favorites are Monte Carlo (red) and Athens (peachy nude). I personally like these better than the Nyx Liquid Lip Lingerie Lipsticks, which are more of a true liquid formula, as those tend to dry to a very tacky formula on me and crumble off. This formula is creamier than regular liquid lipsticks, which means they will transfer and need to be reapplied. However, there is a great color range from neutrals to fun purples, and I think they are such a comfortable formula and a universally great product.

6. Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipsticks: $5 lipsticks for the WIN. I just discovered these on a Target run, where I got the bright pink color Pink Really Hard. From lots of reviews on youtube, they seem to be VERY long lasting and honestly so affordable. I have swatched it once and enjoyed the matte finish. I definitely recommend these if you don’t want to break the bank on lipsticks.
