Hello! I’m Amy, and I will admit I am a recently converted make-up junkie. Over the summer I discovered the lovely-time killing activity that is watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. On this blog I’ll be trying out lots of products to review and generally discussing makeup & beauty for all you gals (or guys too!) interested in glamming up your everyday Hopkins life.*

How to satisfy my new addiction without breaking my bank account, you might ask? Answer: the new CVS, aka Mecca.

This week, I’m reviewing some drugstore products I’ve been trying out for the past few weeks. Here you go!

  1. Face Primer: Wet n’ Wild CoverAll Face Primer – $4.99: This primer was surprisingly really great for such a low price. For reference primers at Sephora can cost ~$40. It moisturizes my skin and smoothes out my pores so my other makeup looks great over it. Also there is no weird smell and it helps my makeup last all day!
  2. Foundation: L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24HR Foundation – $12.99: This foundation is great! It doesn’t feel sticky on the skin at all. Personally. I’m super oily, but even through the ninety degree Baltimore heat, my foundation didn’t budge! If your skin is dry, I would recommend the same foundation but the Pro-Glow formula, which is supposed to be a little more hydrating. It is definitely long-wearing and lasts all day (maybe not 24 hours though).
  3. Blush: Milani Baked Blush (color: Luminoso) – $8.49: I’m obsessed with this blush! It’s a really pretty peachy color and I wear it everyday because it doesn’t make me look super pink and is nice and subtle.
  4. Bronzer: Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Bronzer SPF 15 (color: Ticket to Brazil) – $3.99. This bronzer is a great basic matte bronzer. I really got it because it was so affordable and I’m unwilling to let go of that summer glow
  5. Highlighter: Essence Pure Nude Highlighter – $4.49: I would definitely recommend this as one of my favorite drugstore makeup products. It’s so cheap compared to high-end highlighters and adds the perfect amount of light to your cheeks without being glittery.
  6. Face Powder: RCMA No Color Powder – $12.00: This loose powder works miracles if you like to set your makeup. It goes on totally translucent and doesn’t make your skin cakey at all. Though I had to get it online, it gives about 10X the amount of high-end powders for much better price, so I think its definitely worth it.
  7. Liquid Lipstick #1: NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipsticks (colors: Corset & Exotic) – $6.99: I’d call this an affordable alternative to a Kylie Lip Kit. They’re very long lasting, but can dry out your lips, so use lip balm before. There are lots of cute, neutral colors great for fall.
  8. Liquid Lipstick #2: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (color: Syndney) – $5.99: This color is a very pretty cool-toned light pink. The formula is creamy but still stays on pretty long, without drying your lips, so I would definitely recommend. Plus, there are tons of fun & neutral colors for everyone!

In the future I’ll be trying out some affordable options for mascara, concealer, eye liner and potentially eye shadow, because those are missing from my list. All of these products can be found at CVS with the exception of the face powder, which you can get online and the highlighter which I got from Ulta.

* A disclaimer: makeup definitely isn’t for everyone! You don’t need a ton of makeup to feel confident and #beautiful. It is definitely a personal preference; I personally find it really fun!
