The 2019 Academy Awards took place on February 24, 2019, marking the 91st year of the Oscars. Unsurprisingly, this year’s awards ceremony was extremely exciting, as it was filled with beautiful dresses, Hollywood firsts, and some surprising wins.
Lady Gaga wore a 30 million dollar necklace, Regina King won her first Oscar, Olivia Colman proved victorious over Glenn Close, and Bohemian Rhapsody took home four awards.
My personal favorite, Mahershala Ali, earned his second Oscar to become the second African-American actor to win multiple Academy Awards.
Additionally, this was the first Oscars ceremony in thirty years to have no host. Kevin Hart was supposed to host the 91st Academy Awards, but he stepped down from the position after receiving backlash for having posted homophobic tweets.
