Women’s Day is a celebration of all of the achievements women have made in our society. I wanted to put together a playlist of some of my favorite songs written by, sung by, and/or produced by talented women! The music industry is highly male dominated, women making up only 20% of artists, and a study looking at hit songs from 2012 to 2019 found that only 2.6% of producers on those tracks were women[1]. As we move forward, I am hopeful that the music industry will begin to become less gender-lopsided, but I want to celebrate some of the best songs created by female artists. This playlist includes names you’ll definitely know (think Ariana and Beyonce), as well as some up and coming independent female artists (my beloved Ella Jane). I hope these ladies help inspire you to go after what you want, no matter who or what stands in the way. Happy International Women’s Day!
