Things We’ve Tried Out of Our Comfort Zone

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Recently something that has pushed me out of my comfort zone is weightlifting. While I’d been going to the gym and using the weight machines for the past year and a half, I had never tried free weights before. This summer I had an experienced weightlifter come up with a workout plan just for me and have been starting it in the past few weeks. It definitely put me in an uncomfortable zone, and still does, but I’m very happy I decided to take this step. – Kellyn

Ever since I got my license when I was 17, I’ve been afraid of driving far distances. Being a nervous driver that’s horrible with directions is not a good mix, so I tend to only drive locally. A few weeks ago, there was a movie I wanted to see that was only playing at a theater almost an hour away. I decided to face my fear and follow the GPS to the theater. Having my friend in the passenger’s seat definitely helped and we ended up having a great time. -Carly

Over the summer I went completely out of my comfort zone. I went to colorado and decided it was the perfect place to push back all my fears and go skydiving.  In the car on the way to the skydiving facility my heart was beating out of my chest and I wanted to just say maybe I shouldn’t do this. I went anyway and as soon as I walked through the doors it was like all fears left me they got me suited up and in the plane and I met some great people who distracted me as we were climbing into the air above the Rocky Mountains. I have to say it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Making amazing memories like the one I made is the reason we should all push back our fears and learn to live life to the fullest. Take the leap and do something you are scared of you will never know what can happen. -Julia
