Spring cleaning: How to get organized!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Ah, spring; a time for new beginnings, beautiful flowers, and warm weather (and finals). I don’t know about you, but there’s something about the beginning of a new season that makes me want to get my life together. Whether it’s by finishing inspiration on my Pinterest feed in the middle of the night, or cleaning out my closet, I love feeling put together. Spring is the perfect time to get some organization in your life! Here are some of my favorite products to help you do just that!

All things Lilly-Ann-Planners, notepads, and apparel

If you haven’t heard of All Things Lilly Ann yet, you are missing out on some of the happiest, most aesthetically pleasing products out there! ATLA is a small business owned by Lilly Ann (@allthingslillyann) in Austin, TX. She hand-letters designs for her planners, stickers, clothing, and accessories, all with trendy colors.

One of the best purchases I’ve ever made is the Weekly Planner; it’s perfect for laying out a rough idea of what I need to focus on each week. Her products are affordable, made with love, and so so pretty! And if you need a little dose of motivation, her vlogs are perfect.

Small storage bins/crates

You may find yourself getting stressed as assignments pile up and deadlines come at you from all directions. For me, the stress of school is made worse by a cluttered room/house. Under the sink in my bathroom, there used to be a mess of makeup, hot tools, soap, half empty shampoo bottles, and god knows what else. Now, below my bathroom sink, there is an organized array of boxes, each filled with makeup, hot tools, cleaning supplies, and… that’s actually it. Bins are a great way to make things feel less chaotic in your life; even if you fill those bins with all of the miscellaneous things you own, there’s something calming about everything having its own place.

However, I would highly recommend you use the start of the season as an opportunity to Marie Kondo the hell out of all of your cabinets, closets, and drawers.

That lip gloss you wore to junior prom was really cute, and you probably do have happy memories associated with it. But it’s also really old, and you don’t use it. Throw it out, it’s okay. Then put your healthy, unexpired makeup into a nice little container under the sink. Zen.

Bullet journals

In addition to my ATLA planner, one of the only ways I’m able to get things done and stay organized is by using a bullet journal. These are great because you can really do as much or as little as you’d like with them. I create a new weekly spread every Saturday, including space for daily planning, habit tracking, and a to-do list. Bullet journaling is a soothing way to visualize your to-dos, and break down your days into detailed plans.

Bullet Journals can range in price based on size, but this small journal is a perfect idea! Other Tips

  • Delete random screenshots off your camera roll!
  • Find a morning routine that feels good; anything is a routine if you do it with intention!
  • Open your blinds in the morning! You are the most complicated houseplant you need to take care of, but you can still always use sun to get you in the productive, organized mindset. Keep your room, desk, and head organized this spring!
