Skylar Penrose

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

This Thursday was the annual Design X Fashion Show. For those of you who don’t know, this is where the fashion design students showcase their work on the runway from the problem solving class. If you want to learn more about one of the models in the show, keep reading:

Name: Skylar Penrose

Major: Graphic Design

Year: Sophomore

Are you involved with anything on campus?

SP: I’m on the advertising design team for the Digital Voice, which is like a magazine/newspaper that goes out to the school.

What got you interested in graphic design?

SP: I always loved art and decided I wanted to do something art related and found graphic design after Googling what jobs you could get relating to art.

What do you hope to be when after graduating?

SP:I hope to maybe work in wayfinding and maybe one day own my own business.

What is your favorite project you’ve done so far for graphic design?

SP: We had to do a type specimen book earlier this semester. I had to design an entire book about one typeface and that typeface was the only one I could use throughout the book. I chose the typeface News Gothic that was created for newspapers and magazines in the early 1900s.

How was your experience at Design X?

SP: It was really fun! I’ve never modeled before so it was cool to see what it’s like and there were so many cool looks.

What do you like to do when you’re not busy with design work?

SP: I like to watch YouTube and hang out with my friends.

What’s something you would tell your freshman self?

SP: You don’t have to stress so much when you think you screwed up a project. Do stuff whether or not you have someone to do it with you. It will all turn out okay.
