Seasonal Color Analysis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Have you ever wondered what it means when someone is described as being a summer/autumn/winter/spring? This is seasonal color analysis. It’s a theory about dressing in colors that highlight the coloring in your body. The main undertones to focus on are hair, skin, and eyes. We should all dress in whatever colors make us happy, but it can be a helpful guideline on dressing seasonally even if it’s not “your” season.

I am an autumn. I’ve identified that because of my pink toned skin, dark red hair, and green eyes. You can test yourself here: http://www.thechicfashionista.com/seasonal-color-analysis-2.html#Soft%20… I’m happy to be an autumn because fall is my favorite season, and I love to dress in earth and jewel tones. As a welcome to October, here are some of the best colors on an autumn, and anyone who wants to get into the spirit of the season.

1. Mustard

Although yellow might be seen as a summer color, the darker shade of mustard is perfectly appropriate for fall. Think of the peeks of yellow in the fallen leaves.

2. Sienna

Combined with mustard and a little bit of red, you’ve got your fall foliage covered. This color is warm and reminiscent of harvest time. I actually don’t feel comfortable wearing this color any other time of year, that’s how much it screams autumn to me.

3. Hunter green

You can pretty much take any spring/summer color and choose a shade darker to translate it to fall. If you’re like me and from a rural area originally, fall might remind you of a time when everyone around you went hunting for geese. Camo=green. This green is rich and translates perfectly into holiday, which is right around the corner.

4. Chocolate brown

It’s so easy to stick to black as our favorite neutral, but let’s not forget how beautiful brown is. I’ve actually made it a rule for myself to try and not wear black until December so I let brown have its time to shine.

5. Navy

Navy is kind of in the same boat as an underused neutral. Navy is a color that works for almost every season, but when the weather is still too light and airy for the darkest of blacks, you can’t go wrong in a cozy navy sweater.

6. Plum

Last but not least, plum is a gorgeous jewel tone that should be included in a fall wardrobe to add some variety. You might not see shades of purple in nature this season, but it pairs nicely with most every other color on this list and always looks polished.
