Philadelphia Event to Giving Back │ Light the Night Philadelphia Weekend Event

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

The Light the Night event hopes to help bring some light into the dark truth and times that many cancer patients are going through as research is trying to find cures. Along with this, the event is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which would be put towards research to cure blood cancer.

At this event, lanterns are released with red lights. Lanterns have been derived from many cultures to symbolize enlightenment, success in the future, hopefulness and to push through the hard times (darkness) to move forward to the good (light). There are three specific colors that are given light during the event; white, red, and gold. White is for those who survived and are present for themselves and to show those going through this that there is hope. Red on the other hand is for those who come out to support in general they may not have any link to leukemia or lymphoma cancer but are there to show their support. Gold on the other hand is to recognize those who have lost their lives to cancer. People come out as a remembrance of their loved ones that were lost to cancer. The lanterns are not the only attraction of the event; rather food, music, and fireworks are a part of the event as well.

The money donations go to research, survivors and allow the platform to help survivors and fighters to meet the goals they aspire to achieve. Communities across the country provide groups for families who may be overwhelmed with emotions to have someone to lean on and get help whether it is to share your experience or to teach others that we will get through this together. Random acts of kindness can be done from even the comfort of your home by donating! Every small amount counts for a larger change in the LLS society.
