As a student here at Philadelphia University, you must get your priorities straight. First, go to class and do your homework. Second, study and then socialize. And third, attend the Men’s basketball games. Well, maybe it’s not in that particular order…..
Not only is our Men’s basketball team coached by none other than Herb Magee, Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee with 1000+ game winners in his 50+ years at PhilaU, but the team find ways to pull in large crowds. Either it’s the sleeveless talented men running up and down the court, or its the occasional dunks that occur. They are simply a group of hardworking, talent-driven players who have their eye on the prize: the CACC Championship title for the 3rd year in a row.
The team is lead by senior #21 Peter Alexis, junior #15 Brendan Kilpatrick and sophomore #20 Kaison Randolph. These three players typically have the most points scored in each game (Randolph career-high 26 pts) on the PhilaU roster, and they add to the average of 71.6 points per game. Alexis has been looking for ways to make his final season count, tallying on his 4th player of the week award along with gaining recognition for reaching 1,000 career rebounds.
Here are his thoughts on the season:
What was the team goal, if there was one, coming into this season? Do you think your team is reaching it?
Alexis: The goal coming in was winning another conference championship and to make it to the NCAA tournament. We hold ourselves to these goals every season, and I definitely think we can get there. I think that people were counting us out early but everyone really stepped up and wanted to prove something this year.
With it being your final season here at PhilaU, what are you trying to being on the court to help the team?
Alexis: Honestly, as a senior I just want to try to bring the leadership and composure that comes with the situations I’ve been put in and the experiences I’ve had. I want to leave the guys who are still coming back with something to build on for the next couple years.
What does the team need to do in order to gain their third consecutive CACC championship win?
Alexis: To get that third championship title, we just have to play like we have been at certain points in the season. We’re at our best when we’re having fun with the game and playing for each other, we just have to capture that and put it into these last 10 games and into playoffs after that.
