Whether it’s a rainy, gloomy day or it’s sunny but your mood is about as gray as it gets, a great movie can always make you feel better. Homesickness plagues many college students in all sorts of ways. It is very common to miss home, family, friends, or even times when you were less stressed. Something I find that helps me is to watch a movie that makes me happy, and I made a list of some of my favorites for that purpose!

1. Get Smart

I recently watched Get Smart for the first time and loved it! The cast is great and features Anne Hathaway, Steve Carell, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson andTerry Crews. It is such a funny movie and will definitely make you laugh.

Currently streaming on Netflix

2. Disney Movies:

No one can agree on which Disney movie is the best, but just about everyone loves Disney! Mulan is a personal favorite because I love a movie with a badass female lead role. The Emperor’s New Groove and A Goofy Movie are ones that always seem to make me laugh too.

Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime all offer streaming for a different variety of Disney movies

3. White Chicks

White Chicks is one of the funniest movies. The goofiness of the plot, along with the cast make it a movie to watch again and again.

Not currently available to stream, but it is available for purchase

4. Harry Potter

Harry Potter is the classic whimsical movie series that so many people around the world love. My siblings, cousins, and I all read the books and watched the movies, so it reminds me of time spent with them. The Hogwarts castle is lit with soft candlelight and sets the stage for a movie that will leave you feeling warm and hopeful. Whether it is your first time watching the movie or the fortieth, the movie is sure to turn your day around.

Harry Potter is not currently available to stream, but you can rent or buy the films through Amazon Prime

5. Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia is a classic feel-good movie. The all-star cast is hilarious and super talented! The ABBA songs will have you singing along the whole time!

Currently streaming on Netflix

6. The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride came out in 1987 and has been charming audiences ever since. The dialogue is very witty, and the romance will make your heart soar.

I am a first-year student at Jefferson University studying Textile Materials Technology. I am originally from a suburb of Chicago, Illinois and now study in Philadelphia. At school, I am on the cross country and track teams, and I sing in the school's choir. I love going thrift shopping, reading, finding cool concerts to go to, and activism!
