Reading comes from a place of love and sometimes that love can dwindle. Every reader including me has experienced a book slump, when you lose interest in reading. I think that it is very natural to have a book slump but there are ways to reignite your love of reading. Below I have written some tips that can help you get interested in reading again and hopefully take you out of your reading slump.

  1. Re-read Your Favorite Book – This can help you get out of your slump because your favorite book can remind you why you love reading so much and inspire you to find similar books to read.
  2. Join a Book Club – A book club pushes you to read a book without pressuring you to choose it which allows you the freedom to hate or love it. Moreover, you get the opportunity to chat about the book which can encourage your love for books as you realize what you enjoy and don’t enjoy.
  3. Read a Short Book – Sometimes all you have to do as a reader is just start reading again, repetition is key. By reading a short book there is no worry about page count, time, and more which allows you the space to actually enjoy the process of reading.
  4. Try a Reading Challenge – A reading challenge is a great way to push you out of your comfort zone and give you the space to find books that you enjoy. It is also a great way to make reading a habit allowing for you to continue reading books that you prefer once the challenge is completed.
  5. Try a New Reading Environment – Sometimes the environment you are reading in is not comfortable for you anymore or you’re just bored of that space. A great way to start reading is to try a new place to read in that can create positive vibes instead of carrying old feelings from the previous space. This is a fresh start
  6. Take a Break – This is the hardest tip for me to give because I never want people to stop reading. However, sometimes you get burnt out from reading too much or reading great books that other books can compare. So it may be necessary to take a break and then when you’re ready slowly ease yourself back into reading because nobody is judging. PSA: This tip may or may not be for you so please evaluate yourself as a person and your habits before trying this tip because I never want to be the excuse for people to not read anymore.

I hope that these tips will help you fall back in love with reading because reading is truly one of the most special activities a person can do. So try these tricks anytime your love for books starts to dwindle! Also, remember reading is not a race, nobody is counting how many books you have read, but your focus should be on enjoying every book you read.
