How Does “Fuller House” Hold Up?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Full House is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, and I spent half of my childhood years watching it. I even have every season on DVD. It was a show about The Tanner Family; Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), and his three daughters, DJ (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen). Danny’s wife, Pam, died when the girls were very young. So, the show revolved around Danny raising his three girls with the help of his brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), and his best friend, Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier). DJ’s best friend, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), is also a main character and fan favorite because of her unique, quirky, and hilarious personality. I’ve been praying for years that they would have a cast reunion, but I got something even better – Fuller House.

In the first episode of Fuller House, the entire original cast (besides the Olsen twins) reunites in the Tanner’s family home in San Francisco. The series starts with DJ Tanner raising her 3 kids, Max (5), Jackson (13), and Tommy (just a few months old). She is a single mother because her husband, who was a firefighter, died on the job. In the first episode, Danny, Jesse and Joey are helping out with her children before she moves into her new apartment. In the midst of all the chaos, DJ realizes how difficult it is to raise all three of her children on her own. As a result, Stephanie, and Kimmy offer to move into the Tanner family home with DJ to help raise her kids. DJ accepts the offer, and the rest of the season revolves around all 3 women raising not only DJ’s kids, but also Kimmy’s 13-year-old daughter, Ramona.

Even though Fuller House focuses on a different generation, it still has the same family humor as Full House. I personally love DJ’s son, Max. He is an adorable, hilarious 5 year old that you wouldn’t expect to crack a ton of jokes, yet he does such a good job of it. At first, Jackson and Ramona start out as enemies, but after Ramona moves in, they form an unlikely friendship. Another great thing is that even though the girls are older, they haven’t changed one bit, and are even funnier than before. However, I was disappointed that Michelle Tanner did not make an appearance. Both of the Olsen twins declined to make an appearance on the show, which left many fans feeling disappointed. On the other hand, Fuller House is still a great show even without Michelle, since the show is about DJ and her kids.

Even if you haven’t seen any episode of Full House, I still highly recommend Fuller House.  It’s perfect for all ages, and has a wholesome family feel to it with lighthearted humor. It is available on Netflix, so if you want to watch it, it is definitely worth setting up a Netflix account. Also, the producers just announced they’re doing a second season and I couldn’t be more excited for it. Hopefully you are too!
