Flashback Friday Review: Female Orgasm Lecture

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

This past week was Philadelphia University’s Diversity Week. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend a lot of the events that were taking place, but I had marked one event in my calendar that I knew I wanted to attend. All over the school were posters that read “The Female Orgasm”, advertising an event held on a Monday night at 8pm. Now, listen, when it hit 7:30 pm and I was snuggled up in my bed, it was hard to put on shoes and get in my car (especially since it’s been getting colder and colder). However, I can’t tell you how happy I am that I went.

When I entered into the Tuttleman auditorium, I was surprised to see that there were actually a good amount of people already there, and not just females either! The event started at 8 on the dot, and a man and a woman came out introducing themselves as Marshall and Maggie. They started off the event with a clip from the famous movie “When Harry Met Sally”. Now, if you’ve seen that movie, you probably know exactly what clip I’m talking about. However, if you’re not sure, just open a new tab and type in “When Harry Met Sally restaurant orgasm”, and then go watch the movie after you’re done reading this article, because it’s a classic. The movie clip was a perfect way to start the event, getting the crowd a little more comfortable, energetic, and excited.

I won’t go into excruciating detail about each part of the event, but if you ever get a chance to attend something like this – I would do it. It was funny and entertaining, but most of all, it was educational! Marshall and Maggie made the audience feel comfortable. The best part was that the event was completely lesbain, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) friendly. I left the auditorium knowing a lot more than I thought I did about female orgasms. They gave the audience real life stories about sex and orgasms, but also provided us with information about things like: where the clitoris is, how to explore your body on your own terms, etc. They talked about consent, masturbation, vibrators – basically no topic was off limits, which was fun! I liked the event so much that I got a shirt that said “I HEART FEMALE ORGASMS” on it afterwards, and I wore it to bed that night!
