As the new semester dawns upon students nationwide in full swing, it’s easy to fall back into old habits. Pulling all-nighters to finish an assignment, diet and exercise take a backseat to the constant pressure of your academic responsibilities, and forcing yourself to maintain your presence within the social scene is not the right way or appropriate mindset to start off a fresh semester. While maintaining all of these things are easier said than done, time management is and always will be your best friend. Some may argue living by a schedule is an unhealthy way to go through your day and that you should essentially ‘go with the flow of things.’ In a perfect world, a balance of two of these concepts coexist. Despite struggles and internal conflicts, you might be facing right now, think about the quality of your life in the long run. You have the privilege to attend a university in which you can express yourself, reach out for academic support, and make form new relationships with others.

Unhappy with your major? Change it. Disappointed with a grade you received on an assignment? Talk about it. Unsatisfied with your eating and exercise habits? Work on it. Don’t like the way you think about yourself? Do something about it. There is improvement for every aspect of life, and one of the main goals college students should keep in mind is that this point in time, they are transforming themselves into the person they become for the rest of their lives. Nothing is permanent, but the behaviors you set for yourself at a young age motivates you as you get older to maintain the passion and drive to participate and complete activities you once loved to do. Wake up every morning with a mantra of your own choosing and know that this life is yours, you are driving the car to your future and if the destination is still unclear, know that there is always time to figure out where you’re going.
