Recap: Lip Sync 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

With Greek Week 2014 coming to a close, it’s only fair to say that we had an amazing time traveling through the ages with everyone. Of course, while all the events during the week are important, the jewel of the week is Lip Sync. Worth the most points, and on the Friday night of Greek Week, it’s not just a big event for Greek Life, but for most of the student body. If you couldn’t make it to the event, here’s a recap of how things went:

1. Delta Tau Delta

The men of Delta Tau Delta did a great job at Lip Sync this year, with a very creative theme: The Ellen Show. Complete with fake giveaways, their performance was spot on, especially with their casting of Evan Meindl as Ellen DeGeneres. The men had everyone laughing, and they got the crowd excited to see the rest of the performances. Their ode to wearing tight pants was a particular high point of their show.

2. Kappa Delta

The ladies of Kappa Delta showed the audience the importance of believing in magic with their Harry Potter themed performance. They seemed to have cast the perfect people for each role in the script, and both the dialog and the music choices were fantastic. The crowd went wild for several of their dances, and the ladies seemed to feed off the energy of the audience.

3. Lambda Chi Alpha

The men of Lambda Chi really stepped up their performance from years past. With a theme of Greek gods and the experience of going through recruitment, they were definite contenders this year. Their dancing and music choices were great as well, with some particularly funny moments coming from the scene in which they decided who would get bid cards.

4. Chi Omega

The Chi Omega ladies had a great show at Lip Sync this year. Continuing the popular theme among sororities to use popular movies as the basis for their script, Chi Omega went with a Hercules theme, complete with using parts of the movie soundtrack. Highlights of the show included the muses and their finale.

5. Gamma Phi Beta

The ladies of Gamma Phi had a fantastic performance this year. Their Breakfast Club theme was spot on, and the crowd absolutely loved it. It was great to have these ladies back competing this year, because they always bring a fantastic competitive spirit to the event. Gamma Phi’s Greek shout-out was cute and funny, and the overall message that even though the Greeks wear different letters, they all stick together was touching and memorable.

6. Sigma Phi Epsilon

The Sig Ep men did a wonderful job this year. Everyone really enjoyed the Anchorman/Meet The Press theme, as well as the overarching theme of gender equality. The shout-out to Tim Russert was also really appreciated. Their dancing was fantastic, as were their costumes. Many ladies found the men in yoga pants to be not only hilarious, but also rather attractive.

7. Kappa Kappa Gamma

The ladies of Kappa did a wonderful job with their Toy Story theme. It was particularly moving and special because college is always a time of transition from being a child to being an adult. Their song choices were great, and everyone enjoyed hearing part of You’ve Got a Friend in Me during scene changes! Kappa’s dancing was also really good. They told the story very well, and made it relatable to the audience.

8. Kappa Alpha Theta

Kappa Alpha Theta did a fantastic job with their lip sync this year. Their How The Grinch Stole Greek Week theme was original and really fantastic. As always, their props and costumes were top notch, and it’s clear that they put a lot of effort into their performance. Their dances were fantastic, and the audience went wild for the acrobatics and gymnastics that they included in their choreography.

The results of the night were a surprise to a lot of people, but they were well deserved. The results are as follows:

Men: 1. Sigma Phi Epsilon 2. Lambda Chi Alpha 3. Delta Tau Delta

Women: 1. Kappa Delta 2. Kappa Alpha Theta 3. Gamma Phi Beta 4. Chi Omega 5. Kappa Kappa Gamma
