Profile of The Week: Catie Pauley

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

This week, our chapter decided to feature Catie as our highlighted profile because she is graduating in May and is heavily involved on campus! Keep reading to learn all about her!

The Basics:

Name: Catie Pauley

Year: Senior

Major: Political Science

Hometown: Hudson, OH

Campus Life:

Why did you choose JCU?

I chose JCU because as soon as I set foot on campus, I felt at home. I was actually planning on attending a big school like OSU, but I decided last minute to check out JCU because so many people I loved and respected thought it would be a good fit for me. I had two incredible tour guides, fell in love with the campus, and was in awe at all of the door holding – I knew right away that it was the place for me!

What are you involved in on campus?

I am a member of Chi Omega, I was a New Student Orientation leader, I studied abroad in Ireland, I work at the library, and I’m a member of the Political Science Honor Society, Pi Sigma Alpha.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus is the patio on the second floor of Dolan that overlooks the quad. I might be giving away a little secret hideaway here, but it is so peaceful and has the best view on campus!

What are your plans after graduation?

I will be attending graduate school for my Master’s degree in International Relations.

If you had to give one piece of advice to an incoming freshman at John Carroll, what would you tell them?

Don’t worry so much. Don’t get preoccupied in what other people think of you, the little problems you may face, or whatever it is that may seem world-crushing at the time because oftentimes, it isn’t and it will all work out. Let yourself get caught up in the moment. If something piques your interest, go for it. And get to know the people who work in the caf, because they’re angels.

We’ve heard about Chi Omega’s goal to grant a wish for their philanthropy, as a member, how does your sorority plan to meet that goal?

We are getting so close to granting a wish and are so thrilled! We plan on meeting this goal by hosting various philanthropy events – this weekend, we have our “Grant A Wish in the 216” fundraiser where the proceeds go towards our efforts of granting a wish (and there’s a hot dog eating contest, which is a bonus). We are all very attached to the Make a Wish organization, and are doing anything and everything we can to grant that wish!

Fun Facts:

What is your favorite way to pass time?

I’m currently learning to play the guitar, so right now that’s been keeping me busy and I am loving it. My roommates deserve an award for putting up with me throughout this whole (noisy) process!

Who is your celebrity crush?

This is a tough one! Right now, I would say Scott Eastwood. The guy is not hard to look at – and when he plays a cowboy in The Longest Ride – swoon!

If you could go any place in the world right now, where would it be? Why?

This is a tough one because I love to travel. I really want to do a road trip through the Southeastern U.S., and one of my top destinations on that trip is Charleston, South Carolina. It is so charming and I’m a sucker for southern comfort food.

What is something that not everyone knows about you?

I was an Irish Dancer for about 10 years, and I got to travel all over North America and to Ireland and England for it, which was such a cool experience. It was pretty much my life until I came to college, and I still go to the fitness studio on campus to do it for a bit of exercise these days (so if you hear Irish music coming from there, it’s probably me!).
