On Oct. 15, Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a baby in the spring. Although the official due date has yet to be announced, the Duke and Duchess have dropped several hints during their 16-day regional tour of Australia.
Last Tuesday, Oct. 16, the royals made a brief visit to Sydney’s Admiralty House, where they met Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins. As one might expect, Higgins immediately took to Instagram, and made a post about how beautiful the Duchess looks while pregnant: “What an honour to meet the beautiful Duchess today! She was such a sweetheart. I said I felt sorry for her having to do all these meet-and-greets while 4 months pregnant! What a trooper.”
Seeing as followers of the royal family are still processing Markle’s pregnancy in itself, discovering that she’s already four months along came as quite a shock.
A tweet from Daily Star News reads: “She’s in her third trimester already.”
Although many people are thrilled for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, countless others have shamed Markle for announcing her pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding – and they weren’t shy about it on Twitter.
“Can’t you let Princess Eugenie enjoy her #royalwedding for a bit?” tweeted @expatsincx. “Does #MeghanMarklepregnant news have to be told during the royal wedding?”
While there are many negative statements surrounding Markle’s pregnancy announcement, excitement for the royal couple has spread across the globe. Not only are Australian singer-songwriters thrilled, but Hollywood actresses have expressed joy for the former Suits actress and Prince Harry. In fact, Markle’s best friend, Priyanka Chopra from NBC’s Quantico, said the Duchess’ pregnancy has given her “baby fever.”
Although the timing of Markle’s pregnancy announcement has been scrutinized on social media, the royal family will grow by one this spring, whether Twitter likes it or not.
