I’m not going to lie, the first night Disney+ came out, I was feeling a little bummed that I didn’t have it. At no point was I considering getting it, but yesterday my dad informed our family group chat that he had gotten a free year of Disney+. I obviously spent my Friday night scouring the new platform. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge movie person. I’m not a fan of seeing new movies in fear that I’ll end up wasting two hours of my life, which I always do anyway, so I’m not sure why I’m so picky. When I do decide to watch a movie, I always end up watching one that I know I’ll enjoy. Most of the time this means (re)watching the live-action “Peter Pan” from 2003 or “The Sound of Music.” I don’t think I realized how many of my favorite movies of all time are Disney until I went surfing through Disney+. This goes back to the fact that most of my favorite movies today are my favorite movies from when I was a kid. Here’s a list of some of my childhood and current favorite movies that I’ll be watching in the next month on Disney+:

The AristoCats

The first movie I watched when I got on Disney+. It’s no secret I’m a huge cat lady, and I might rank this my favorite Disney movie of all time, if not at least in the top three. I started collecting pins from everywhere I traveled in Europe and also picked a Marie pin while at Disneyland Paris. If you haven’t seen this Disney classic, add it to your watch list.

10 Things I Hate About You

When I saw this movie on Disney+, I was ecstatic. A couple of months ago I accidentally forked out $60 on some version of Hulu that I forgot to cancel before the free trial ended trying to watch this movie. The worst part? I didn’t even get to watch it. I don’t want to talk about it. This movie probably lands in my top ten favorite movies of all time. As someone who tends to rock an aggressive RBF at all times (not on purpose), Kat is my everything, and Heath Ledger is just the best eye candy. I look forward to watching this regularly without having to worry about canceling a free trial.

Dinosaur

While I haven’t finished it quite yet, this movie is just as good as I remember it. I’m also just now realizing that I combined this movie and “The Land Before Time” in my memory. While the other older movies that I haven’t seen in a long time have been less than impressive like “Zenon,” “Dinosaur” still impresses me at 21.

FernGully

I used to watch this movie regularly with my little brother for any drive over an hour. I have to say, for a movie released in the 90s it does a really great job of bringing awareness to deforestation. It does an equally great job of making me feel sad because 27 years later, it’s still a major problem.

Thumbelina

This is a movie I have probably watched the least. I couldn’t even guess what the plot is at this point in time, but I do remember avidly loving it as a child and hope it lives up to my memory.

Hopefully, one of these movies can keep you company on a night in and remind you of a simpler time.
