Our Campus Celebrity this week not only has the best laugh on-campus, but she’s also accomplished amazing things at JCU in her (almost) four years. That’s right; our celebrity this week is Mary-Kate Begin!

Mary-Kate, a senior, is an English Education major. After graduation, she hopes to become a high school English teacher. “I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. After working with high school students, I realized that I truly enjoy helping them. It makes me so happy,” says Mary-Kate.

During her time at JCU, Mary-Kate has joined many organizations. She’s a member of Kappa Delta, a lector at mass, a lifeguard, worked at the Rec desk, and on Orientation Staff. Mary-Kate explained that working on Orientation Staff was definitely her favorite experience at John Carroll. “I got to work with eleven other JCU students who I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I gained a lot of friendships through this experience. I loved getting to help the freshman feel welcome at John Carroll,” says Mary-Kate. She worked on Orientation Staff for two summers and got to help hundreds of freshmen become acquainted with JCU.

Not only has Mary-Kate been able to bring a smile to many faces on our campus, but she’s also spread her joy around the world. During her junior year, Mary-Kate traveled to Nicaragua on an immersion trip. She says her experiences with this immersion trip changed the way she views life. “The immersion trip showed me that you don’t need money to be happy. Because, yes, the people we worked with were poor, but they weren’t poor in spirit,” explains Mary-Kate.

With her beautiful outlook on life and innate ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face, Mary-Kate will definitely be a wonderful teacher! Good luck with the rest of senior year!

Brittany, a Senior at JCU, has a passion for tea, books, writing, and London. As an English major, you can usually find her curled up with a good book somewhere on-campus (usually in O'Malley). She loves everything about Her Campus, and she finds it extremely exciting and rewarding to be a Campus Correspondent!
