What do you think of when you think of autumn? The immediate impressions that come to most people’s minds are changing leaves, pumpkin themed drinks, comfy fall fashion, and that magical cool crisp entwined in the air. This ginger snap cookie cutter version of autumn was not in store for John Carroll’s first day of fall.

The few fallen leaves on campus withered to a crisp on the burning asphalt while the summer sun decided to make one last uninvited visit. The sun beat down on the students of JCU harder than any midterm could ever hope to do.

People turned around in the doorways of dorms to change out of their flannels and riding boots in favor of a tank top, sandals, and an extra layer of deodorant. A few spirited people may have run off to Starbucks to buy the famed Pumpkin Spice Latte to celebrate the ringing in of fall, but only in frappe form since the weather was surely hotter than the actual heated seasonal drink.

The final thought as the scorching sun finally decided to set on the first day of fall that lingered in the JCU community’s minds was this: where the heck was this 87 degree weather the first week of school?! I suppose that summer couldn’t leave the party gracefully and had to make one final scene, but surely the fall we all know and love will arrive to John Carroll’s campus soon, even if it is fashionably late.
