One of the best things about going home for the holidays is the food, specifically desserts! There are so many delicious treats that we just don’t get the rest of the year. Here are some of my favorite Christmas cookies:

  1. Chocolate Peppermint Cookies- Last time I made these they were definitely from a store-bought mix, but they were soooooooo good. I’m not even a big chocolate person, but with a glass of milk these cookies were the perfect holiday snack. Some red and white peppermint frosting on the top and crushed candy-cane pieces really finish it off.

  2. Gingerbread- I wouldn’t eat gingerbread outside of the holiday season, but it’s one of my favorite Christmas treats. Every year my grandma makes a gingerbread person for me and each of my cousins, complete with M&M eyes and icing smiles. Helping her bake and decorate those cookies is part of my holiday tradition–plus they’re pretty tasty!

  3. Peppermint Bark- Not technically a cookie, but how could I leave out this wintery treat? I’m a big peppermint bark fan–my favorite variety is white chocolate with the crunchy peppermint pieces. I love buying a big bag right before Christmas!

  4. Sugar Cookies- Fun, Christmas-shaped cookies are so much fun! The taste isn’t too unique, but they’re a classic. You can make trees, Santas, stars, and whatever other holiday shapes you want. And they leave lots of room for yummy candy and frosting additions, which I love.

  5. Chocolate Chip Cookies- I like a good chocolate chip cookie as much as anybody else, but they’re not my favorite for the holidays. With so many other festive options, chocolate chip just doesn’t have that Christmas-y feel. I’m sure Santa will appreciate them no matter what, but there are definitely more creative options.

  6. Snickerdoodles- I never had these growing up, so I’m still not sure how I feel about them. They’re good, but not particularly memorable for me. I’ll never say no to some cookies, but snickerdoodles are down at the bottom of my list.
