November 21st marked JCU’s annual Cafsgiving and every JCU student’s favorite on-campus meal of the year. Cafsgiving 2019 was my third and last time attending. I did miss Cafsgiving 2017 because I was studying abroad in Italy; I still have fomo. I’m not going to lie, this year left me a little emo about graduating and leaving friends. Here’s my review of key Cafsgiving factors as of 2019:

Line

While I know there was a very long line of students waiting for the caf to open at 4:30, by the time I went with my friends at 5, the line was shorter than the lunch line I normally wait in. Easily the best line experience I’ve had to date.

Seating

I’ve only been fortunate enough to actually eat my dinner in the caf during one Cafsgiving. Last year we were booted upstairs which was quite the hike and pretty unpleasant. This year we scored a table at the Inn Between. It seems that seating continues to be an area of improvement.

Dinner

I don’t know if I was just really hungry, but I think this was maybe the best food I’ve had at Cafsgiving to date. We did have to wait for a while in line for them to get more mac n cheese and mashed potatoes, but both were great along with the green beans and turkey and gravy. One of the standouts for me this year were the rolls; they were very soft and almost Hawaiian bread-like. Apparently, they had a vegan risotto option as well that I did not see.

Dessert

It seems to me that dessert remains the same at Cafsgiving every year. They had sweet potato pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin roll. I can’t give a review on how everything was because I only tried the pumpkin roll, but I didn’t hear any complaints.

Overall, I’d say this year’s Cafsgiving was definitely above average, possibly the best experience I’ve had to date.

I am a Senior Accountancy major at John Carroll University. I spent Fall 2017 studying abroad in Italy, inspiring me to also pursue a major in Italian Studies. I plan to pursue my Masters of Accountancy after graduating in December 2019.
